The word for this week is "bread". Of course the obvious definition for this is "a small loaf or cake, composed of flour and water and baked". This is the Greek word "artos". Vine's Expository Dictionary adds this, though: of Christ as the Bread of God and of Life; of food in general, the necessities for the sustenance of life. We see Jesus as the Bread in these verses:
John 6:32-33 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which comes down from heaven, and gives life unto the world. KJV
John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. KJV
Matt 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. KJV
We also see Jesus say THIS about bread when the heathen woman came to Him to get help for her daughter:
Matt 15:26-27 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. 27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. KJV
Our intimate fellowship with Jesus is designed to give us that sustenance for every area of our lives, spirit, soul and body! We know from the Word that He is well able to supply our physical need for food because He provided manna in the wilderness and He multiplied the loaves and fish more than once in the New Testament. Psalm 37:25 gives us this promise concerning our physical food:
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. KJV
His Life is the bread, or sustenance for our spirits. His Word is the bread or sustenance for our souls. He provided bread as food for our physical bodies and also healing and deliverance as "bread". We can count on Him for provision in every area of life! We can say of Him: "You've never failed, and You won't start now"! These are words to "Oceans - Where Feet May Fail" by Hillsong United. Here is that song!
Love and Shalom from the Swoveys!
