Hi Brian! I hope you stay warm at the game tonight! I will be posting the word for this week tomorrow! Well, this is tomorrow and THAT was a GREAT game! Did you even notice the cold? :) The word for this week is "faithfulness". We find it in these verses: Psalm 36:5 Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, extend to the skies, and Your faithfulness to the clouds. AMP Psalm 89:1 I WILL sing of the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord forever; with my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness from generation to generation. AMP Psalm 92:1 IT IS a good and delightful thing to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises [with musical accompaniment] to Your name, O Most High, 2 To show forth Your loving-kindness in the morning and Your faithfulness by night, AMP Lam 3:22 It is because of the Lord's mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness. AMP This is the Hebrew word "`emuwnah". Strong's concordance says this: firmness, security, fidelity. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon adds: steadfastness, steadiness. Notice that in every one of these Scriptures that speaks of His faithfulness, we also see His mercy and/or loving-kindness mentioned. We covered both of those words before as the Hebrew word "checed" which we found from Vine's Expository Dictionary means:loving-kindness; steadfast love; grace; mercy; faithfulness; goodness; devotion. These are all attributes of His nature AND His attitude toward us. Nothing we can ever do or neglect to do will ever cause HIM to be unsteady or wavering in His opinion of us or His love for us. That gives me the great confidence to simply confess the mistakes and get IMMEDIATELY right back in fellowship with Him! HE never wavers in His support of me, or you! I am sincerely confident that whatever HE has in store for you and your family in 2016, it will be better than you can now imagine! That doesn't mean that their won't be tests or trials, but with the confidence that HE never wavers, we can remain steady, too! Good gifts await (James 1:17)! Here is Hillsong Worship with another song from their new album called "Faithfulness":

Hi Brian! What a great game! So fun listening to it. The word for this week is "eternity". It's only found once in the Bible in Isaiah 57:15: 15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. NKJV This is the Hebrew word "`ad". Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon says this: perpetuity, forever, continuing future. I have always been tremendously blessed whenever I stop to appreciate that our God, Who had no beginning and no end and Who lives in the mode of FOREVER, can still be willing to also live in me! Our human minds can't even comprehend the vastness of Who He is! We have within us the Wisdom, the power and the authority of the One Who spoke the universe into existence with a Word! Genesis 1:3: 3 And God said, Let there be light; and there was light. I don't really believe that He actually had to say "Let there be ...". My thought is that all that He had to say was "Light!" and light had no choice but to BE! Because HE lives in us, we CAN get to the point where we only need to speak a Word and it will happen, just as it did for Him! We have everything we will ever need to be successful at whatever we lay our hands to because the One, True God, in the person of Holy Spirit, lives in us forever! HE will never leave and WE have access to Him and His infinite wisdom. The more that I meditate on the Word, the more I understand His presence and power! HE is holding nothing back and the only thing standing between us and that place of being able to speak just a Word is TIME! Every day that we grow up in the Word brings us closer! I am so happy to know that you love studying the Word! When your children are so bold to declare Jesus, we KNOW that they have been well trained! I can't wait to see you all again! Have a very Merry and Blessed Christmas! We love you! Here is Hillsong Worship with "Here With You".

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "greatness". It's found only once in the New Testament in Ephesians 1:19-20: 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, KJV
This is the Greek word "megethos". Strong's Concordance says: magnitude. The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament adds this: physical or spiritual greatness. The Amplified Bible is really good for these verses: 19 And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength, 20 Which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His [own] right hand in the heavenly [places], AMP As powerful as the creation of the universe must have been, the resurrection of Jesus from the dead is what Holy Spirit refers to when He speaks of the "greatness" (the magnitude) of the power of God. This same power is also what it took to change our previously dead human spirits into the image of God at the New Birth (2 Corinthians 5:17). "Power", which we have covered before, is the Greek word "dunamis" which means miraculous power, according to Strong's Concordance, and inherent power, strength and ability, according to Thayer's Greek Lexicon. Because His greatness lives IN us in the person of Holy Spirit, WE have His ability to accomplish anything and everything that He calls us to do! Philippians 4:13: 13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency]. AMP As you and Kristine raise your daughters to know this Truth about who THEY are in Him, it will be so exciting to see them demonstrate that greatness in all of the areas that are important and unique to them. Nothing will be impossible that they set their minds to! Thank You JESUS! Here is another new song from Hillsong Worship called "Heart Like Heaven":

Hi Brian! We will definitely move on from THAT game! Thank you again for your email, it was very encouraging! :) The word for this week is "violent". The only verse in the New Testament that has this word is Matthew 11:12, and it also contains another form of the same word. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. KJV "Violent" here is the Greek word "biastees". Strong's Concordance says this: a forcer, i.e. energetic. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: strong, forceful. Vine's Expository Dictionary says: a forceful or violent man. "Suffers violence" is "biazoo", which is the verb form and means to be seized or forced. From the KJV it appears to be a negative picture of the kingdom of Heaven being attacked, but the more accurate meaning is found in the Amplified Bible. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize — a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion]. AMP So, even though the enemy would like to attack the Lord and His Kingdom, he no longer has any right to do so. We, however, have the Kingdom of our Lord as our inheritance and we MUST go after it fiercely, forcefully and sometimes violently because the enemy would love nothing better than to try to keep us from it! The violence, or forcefulness, is how we need to operate where our health and healing, our financial prosperity, our peace and joy, our family, our careers, our friends and every other area of our life is concerned, so that we refuse to allow anything good to be stolen! The great news is that this "violent" fight is called a "fight of faith" (1 Timothy 6:12) and it is one that we ALWAYS win, IF we refuse to quit! I know you and Kristine are not quitters! I am praying that this new year will be one of extreme blessing, peace, prosperity, joy and happiness for you all! Here is Hillsong Worship with another new song called "What A Saviour":

Hi Brian! Great win today! The word for this week is "transfigured/transformed. These are the same Greek word. We find transfigured in these two verses: Matthew 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. KJV Mark 9:2 And after six days Jesus takes with him Peter, and James, and John, and leads them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. KJV
Transformed is found in this verse: Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. KJV Both of these are from the Greek word "metamorphoo". Thayer's Greek Lexicon says: to change into another form. When Jesus was on the mountain with Peter, James and John, His physical appearance changed to take on the glow that comes from the Glory of God. WE will have bodies like that when we get to Heaven, OR when we meet Him in the air at the Rapture of the Church. Romans shows us that our souls (mind, emotions, will) NEED to be transformed by being renewed with the Word of God. The more we meditate on the Word (thinking about it, talking about it, allowing Holy Spirit to reveal it to us) the more knowledge and understanding we will have, not only of what it is saying, but also how to act on it. What we see and hear will determine what we think about. What we think about is what we will eventually say and then do. Changing our thinking to agree with God causes us to respond as He would to every situation! Transformation! Your home and family reflect that! You are looking more and more like JESUS! Here is another new song from the new album by Hillsong's called Transfiguration":

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "shaken". We'll be looking at these verses: Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. KJV Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. KJV Acts 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. KJV 2 Thess 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. KJV
In all of the above verses, the Greek word is "saleuo". It can have a positive connotation as in the verse in Luke concerning the return on our giving, or negative as in 2 Thessalonians referring to our mindset. Strong's Concordance says this: to waver; agitate; rock; topple; destroy; disturb; incite. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: the motion produced by winds, storms or waves; to shake down; overthrow; to cast down from one's secure and happy state. The good things in Luke are "shaken" so that everything will settle down, making room for more. A negative motion that produces a positive result! In Acts the entire place was shaken by the power, presence and glory of God the Holy Spirit as He moved among and upon the believers there. His power is ALWAYS a GOOD thing for HIS people! The prison being shaken also displayed the power and presence of the Spirit of God that resulted in the jailer being saved! In 2 Thessalonians Paul is warning born again, Spirit-filled believers not to be upset by things that they were hearing that were contrary to the Word and plan of God. WE can use THAT exhortation in these days! There IS that quiet place of calm confidence when we KNOW our God and His will for our lives and when we trust Him in all of those things. (As Vikings fans, we will NOT be shaken by yesterday's game! We fully expect our team to learn from their mistakes and come back better and stronger than ever!) Hi Brian! The word for this week is "forsake". We'll also be looking at the word "forsaken" as they both originate from the same Greek word. Here is Hebrews 13:5: 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. KJV
This is the Greek word "egkataleipo". Strong's Concordance says: to leave behind in some place. {In a good sense: let remain over. In a bad sense: to desert.} Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: to leave down, to abandon. Vine's Expository Dictionary also adds this: to leave in straits or helpless. Once we have been born again, Holy Spirit takes up residence IN us, and He will never leave! I really like the Amplified Bible for this: 5 Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] AMP What a wonderful promise! We see this word translated "forsaken" in these two Scripture passages: Mark 15:34 and 2 Corinthians 4:7-9: 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? KJV 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; KJV Jesus Himself WAS "forsaken" by the Father at that moment when He BECAME sin with OUR sin, taking that punishment of death (separation from God) for us, so that we will never have to! Neither He, nor we, will ever be forsaken by God again! No matter what happens, we will always have an answer in the Word that provides the way out (1 Corinthians 10:13)! Here is Hillsong Worship with another new song called "Never Forsaken":

Hi Brian! It was great to see you both at the game today! I can't wait to see the new family picture! The word for this week is "sting". It's only found in one portion of Scripture. 1 Corinthians 15:55-56: 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. KJV This is the Greek word "kentron". Strong's Concordance says this: from kenteo (to prick); a point, a sting (figuratively, poison). Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: a sting as that of bees or scorpions. I really like this from the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament: When sin, on which its power rests, is vanquished by Christ, the sting is withdrawn and death becomes impotent. We know from Romans 6:23 that the ultimate price that must be paid for sin is death. This is not physical death, but eternal separation from the God of the Bible. Every human being is a spirit being, possessing a soul and living in a body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). The spirit and soul will live forever, SOMEWHERE. That choice is ours to make. So, for the born again believer, death is no longer an enemy, but the "ticket" to an eternity in the presence of God! I refuse to leave here before I have "finished my course" (2 Timothy 4:7-8), but when I do, I'm ready! It is so wonderful to know that you and your family will (one day a LONG time from now) be there too! The Message Bible is really good, too! Here are verses 54-58: 54 Then the saying will come true: Death swallowed by triumphant Life! 55 Who got the last word, oh, Death? Oh, Death, who's afraid of you now? 56 It was sin that made death so frightening and law-code guilt that gave sin its leverage, its destructive power. 57 But now in a single victorious stroke of Life, all three — sin, guilt, death — are gone, the gift of our Master, Jesus Christ. Thank God! 58 With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don't hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.
I LOVE that! Here is a song from Hillsong Worship's new album called "O Praise The Name":

Hi Brian! GREAT win, even if it WAS a bit ugly! Can't wait to see you all for the game next week! The word for this week is "wind". We'll be looking at three Greek words translated "wind" from three different verses. The first is found in John 3:8: 8 The wind blows (breathes) where it wills; and though you hear its sound, yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. AMP This is the Greek word "pneuma". Thayer's Greek Lexicon says of this word: a movement of air (gentle) blast. Breaths of the nostril or mouth. The human spirit. When we receive Jesus as Lord and personal Savior, being born again, then the Spirit of God comes into our previously dead spirit and recreates our spirit man into the image of God. We become that new creature that never existed before in our lives (2 Corinthians 5:17). That is a GOOD wind! The next is found in Acts 2:2: 2 When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. AMP This is the Greek word "pnoe". Thayer's Greek Lexicon says: breath, breath of life. Vine's Expository Dictionary adds: a blowing blast. The "breath" of the Spirit of God came into that room on the Day of Pentecost as forcefully as a strong and mighty wind would! My personal belief is that Holy Spirit was as excited about living in these new believers (and filling them to overflowing) as Jesus was to give His life for our Salvation! Thank YOU, Jesus, and thank YOU Holy Spirit! These two examples were very positive, but the next one is not! The last example is found in Ephesians 4:14: 14 So then, we may no longer be children, tossed [like ships] to and fro between chance gusts of teaching and wavering with every changing wind of doctrine, [the prey of] the cunning and cleverness of unscrupulous men, [gamblers engaged] in every shifting form of trickery in inventing errors to mislead. AMP This is the Greek word "anemos". Thayer's Greek Lexicon says: wind, a violent agitation and stream of air. Vine's Expository Dictionary adds: besides the literal meaning, is used metaphorically of variable teaching. This word is a caution to NOT be moved by every new doctrine or teaching that comes along UNLESS it lines up perfectly with the Word of God! People come up with ideas about what the Word says all the time. Sometimes they are right and other times they are wrong. When we meditate on these, Holy Spirit will reveal what is Truth (John 17:17) and what is not! You can trust Him! Here is another new song by Hillsong Worship called "Love On The Line":

Hi Brian! Yay! Vikings WIN! The word for this week is "thing". There are a few words translated "thing" in the New Testament, so we may have to cover this one again sometime. For today, we will be looking at these three portions of Scripture: Luke 10:41-42; John 1:1-3; Philippians 3:13-14: Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. KJV John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. KJV Phil 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. KJV
This is the Greek word "heis" and it is actually referring to the number. Strong's Concordance says: a primary numeral; one. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: emphatically, so that others are excluded. The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament adds this: single; "once-for-all"; unique. In Luke Jesus was explaining to Martha that in all the good things she was doing to bless people, the MOST important thing she SHOULD have been doing was listening to HIM as He spoke the Word to them. When WE put the Word first place, everything else in life will fall right into place! That doesn't mean to be lazy, but rather, to be focused on giving HIM the top priority. We see in John that there was NOT one thing that has ever been made or created that doesn't have it's origin in Jesus, the Word of God! In Philippians we see that Paul thought it was the MOST important thing he could do to keep pressing on toward the goal of fulfilling the call of God on his life. With your career, your band, your beautiful wife and your four lovely daughters, there will be many important decisions you will have to make, but if HE is your "one thing" then you will have all of the wisdom you need to make the right choices in all of the others! You have been doing a wonderful job in this life so far, so the evidence is there that you HAVE been doing the "right" things! Here is Hillsong Worship with a song from their new album called "One Thing", which is very appropriate for this week!

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "judge". We'll be looking at Matthew 7:1-2: 1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. KJV This is the Greek word "krino". Strong's Concordance says: to decide, to try, to condemn, to punish. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: to separate, put asunder, to pronounce an opinion, to pronounce judgement, to subject to censure. We are told here NOT to do this. This same Greek word is translated "condemn" in John 3:17: 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. KJV I especially like this one from the Amplified Bible: 17 For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him. AMP Just as Jesus was not sent to condemn us, He has not sent us to condemn others. I know of some Christians who seem to have made it their life's work to find out and condemn sin in other believers. The only thing we are told to do if we see a fellow believer sin is found Galatians 6:1: 6 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. KJV
I know that you don't have a problem with this, but I believe that you will have an opportunity to minister to others who do! Here is a new song from Hillsong Worship called "Open Heaven/River Wild:

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "just". Three of the verses we'll look at say similar things. Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11 and Hebrews 10:38: Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. KJV Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. KJV Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. KJV These are all the Greek word "dikasios". Strong's Concordance says: equitable in character or act; innocent. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: righteous; one who is such as he ought to be; upright; virtuous; faultless; guiltless; acceptable to God. Of course none of this refers to who we WERE, but rather who we ARE - IN HIM! He has made us righteous with His righteousness because we have received Jesus as our Lord and personal Savior. He was made sin with our sin so that we could be in this wonderful position! When we DO sin after the New Birth, we go to 1 John 1:9 and receive our forgiveness, and find that HE is just! 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. KJV And then we are instructed in Philippians 4:8 how to keep thinking right. I like the Amplified the best for this one: Philippians 4:8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. AMP
In the realm of the Spirit, we are perfect in His sight, new creatures that never existed before the New Birth (2 Corinthians 5:17). Now we need to keep renewing our minds by meditating on the Word of God to find out more and more of what being just and righteous in His sight means, and how to walk this out before the lost so that they will be drawn to Him! Here is Hillsong United with one of my favorite songs: "Search My Heart". One of the lines is: "without You I am nothing." Now THAT thought will keep us humble before Him!

Hi Brian! That was an exciting game, and oh so close! The word for this week is "zealous". It's related, of course, to the word "zeal" that we had recently. We'll be looking at two different portions of Scripture. . The first one is found in Titus 2:13-14: 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. KJV This is the Greek word "zelotes". Thayer's Greek Lexicon says: to imitate emulously (ambitiously), to strive after. The second verse is found in Revelation 3:19: 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. KJV This one is the Greek word "zeloo". Strong's Concordance says: to have warmth of feeling for or against. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: absolutely to be heated or to boil, to desire earnestly, to strive after, busy oneself about, to exert oneself for. In Titus, Paul is telling us the type of attitude that Jesus is looking for in His people. In Revelation, Jesus is telling us this Himself! In fact, just before this, in verses 15-16, He tells us exactly what He thinks of an attitude that is less than "zealous"! 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. KJV He desires that we be excited for the things of God, and that it shows so that others can see it! This is why not every born again believer should be involved in "everything" just because others are. If we spread ourselves too thin, we will have nothing that attracts people toward HIM! The solution is to BE who God has called US, individually, to be, fully thriving in His presence, and allowing HIM to work through us to reach the lost. I have found that if something comes up that I cannot pour my whole heart into, then I will step aside and simply pray for those whom He puts in that position. THEY will be able to do it "zealously" and HE will be greatly pleased! You and Kristine are doing such a wonderful job of allowing your daughters to try different things in order to find what they really enjoy doing, have a passion about and can be "zealous" over! This allows God to further guide and direct them to what He desires for them to do. What a wonderful plan He has and what a great blessing it is to watch it all play out! In keeping with that theme, Here is Hillsong United with "Take It All":

Hi Brian! What a great game! It was fun to watch even on television! The word for this week is "alleluia". {A special note: I know that we have covered this word before, but when I tried to do something else, He just kept bringing me back to this! I am thinking that a review of this is not a bad thing and that we both can probably use the exhoratation! :) } It's only found in four verses in Revelation and we'll be looking at three of them here: Revelation 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: KJV Revelation 19:4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. KJV Revelation 19:5-9 5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigns. 7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. KJV This is the Greek word "allelouia". Strong's Concordance says: praise ye Jah! an adoring exclamation. This is a compound word, with the first part being "halal" (to be clear; to shine; to make a show; to be clamorously foolish; to rave; to celebrate; to stultify [Dictionary says: to make or cause to appear foolish or ridiculous] and the second part the Name of God. This worship of the Lord is nothing new for Heaven, but we are seeing a very noticeable increase in true praise and worship all over the world. There are so many anointed praise and worship leaders that are putting their music out there for all believers to make use of. When we first started out, there weren't any! We prefer Hillsong, Hillsong United, Hillsong Young and Free and Hillsong Kids because we have grown up with them and for the most part they are very true to the Word of God. Others that I like are Chris Tomlin and Kari Jobe. Being a musician yourself, I'm sure you have your own preferences! The important thing is that we make use of the tools that God has provided us to become true worshippers, who worship in Spirit and in Truth! John 4:23-24: 23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. KJV I have heard people who have had visions of Heaven say that in Heaven there is continual praise going on. I don't know about Heaven, but I DO know that Jesus said THIS in Luke 19:40: 40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. KJV I may not have a beautiful singing voice, but I refuse to be outdone by a dumb rock! :) I am guessing that you feel the same way! In that light, here is Hillsong with "For Who Your Are":

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "special". We'll be looking at Acts 19:11: 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: KJV
This is the Greek word "tugchano". Thayer's Greek Lexicon says this: to hit the mark; to attain or, obtain, to become the master of. The Amplified Bible is very good for this!
And God did unusual and extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, AMP These special miracles that God did were extraordinary, or beyond the ordinary! When I think of this word, I think of you and Kristine together! I truly believe that God fully intended for you to be together and raise the lovely daughters that He has blessed you with! I have felt that from the first time we met you! I believe that your relationship together is "special"! It is beyond the ordinary! You uniquely complement each other in a way that can only have originated from God Himself! You are a wonderful man, husband and father. You put your wife and children and their needs above your own. That is truly like Jesus! THEY shine because you allow them to be themselves. That is extraordinary, and extremely special! Here is Hillsong Kids with Supernatural":

Hi Brian! This will be a fun and busy week for you and your family! Have a safe, blessed and wonderfully fun trip! The word for this week is "zeal". We find it in John 2:17: 17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. KJV This is the Greek word "zelos". Strong's Concordance says: heat, i.e. ardor (in a favorable sense) and jealousy (in an unfavorable sense). Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: excitement of mind; fervor of spirit; ardor in embracing, pursuing, defending anything. The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament also adds this: the capacity or state of passionate commitment. The Amplified Bible says this for John 2:17: 17 And His disciples remembered that it is written [in the Holy Scriptures], Zeal (the fervor of love) for Your house will eat Me up. [I will be consumed with jealousy for the honor of Your house.] AMP Another verse containing "zeal" is Romans 10:2: 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. KJV Paul was speaking of Israel here. They were very passionate for their God, but they had no knowledge of Who He REALLY was/is! Nothing of the knowledge of the Word of God will just "magically" appear in us. We MUST make a conscious decision to seek out what we need to know. We have to make this same commitment that Paul made inPhilippians 3:10: 10 [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], AMP When we combine this burning "zeal" for the things of God with the knowledge of Who He is, and who WE are, in Him, there will be no stopping what we can accomplish of what He has called and equipped us to do! Here is an older song that we used to sing called "The Zeal of God":

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "travel". We'll be looking at 2 Corinthians 8:18-19: 18 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; 19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind: KJV This is the Greek word "sunekdemos". It is a compound word that is actually referring to those who are travelling together. That sounds perfect for you and Kristine as you have been travelling and will be with Avery and Elle! Strong's Concordance says: co-absentee from home, i.e. fellow-traveler. It comes from the word "sun", which is a primary preposition denoting union (with, together) and the word "ekdemeo", which is another compound word meaning to emigrate, to vacate. Vine's Expository Dictionary says of this word: to be away from people, to go abroad, to depart. Paul used this word when he said this in 2 Corinthians 5:6-8: 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. KJV So, you have been away from home and family while you were travelling, and will be from some of your family when you travel to Florida. Those we know who are currently in Heaven have traveled, and are absent from us, but present with the Lord! When the Rapture of the Church occurs, which some believe to be very soon, then we who have received Jesus as Lord and Savior (AND all babies and young children) will "travel" from this earth and be with HIM! I am thrilled that you and Kristine have been able to do some traveling together, and now with your family, and equally as thrilled that when the time comes, we will all be traveling together to be with Him! Soon and very soon! But, in the meantime, may the Lord bless and prosper your family travels with favor, anointing, protection, provision and safety, great weather, fun times and the desires of your hearts met! We love you all! Here is Hillsong with "Tell The World":

Hi Brian! I hope you're enjoying your trip! The word for this week is gift(s). We'll be looking at Romans 6:3 and Romans 11:29: 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. KJV 29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. KJV This is the Greek word "charisma". Strong's Concordance says this: a divine gratuity; deliverance; a spiritual endowment; a miraculous faculty. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds this: a favor which one receives without any merit of his own. Vine's Expository Dictionary says: a gift involving grace. The moment we prayed to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, we received this wonderful gift of never ending life and the very nature of the God of the Bible IN us! {The "life" that He has given us is "zoe", which we have looked at before, and is life as GOD has within Himself! It IS the very force of life that makes God, GOD!} We did nothing to earn or deserve this life. He simply freely gave it to us so that we could be like Him and could fellowship with Him. HE will never change His mind concerning His promises. That should give us greater confidence to stand strong on the Word whenever we are faced with tests, trials and tribulations. Because of this gift, we can face anything the enemy tries to do and will always win if we refuse to give up and quit. Remember these two Scriptures whenever you are faced with adversity: Philippians 4:13:and Mark 10:27: 13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency]. AMP 27 Jesus glanced around at them and said, With men [it is] impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God. AMP I can't wait to see what other new and exciting things HE has planned for you and Kristine and your family! You ARE, of all people, MOST blessed! Here is Hillsong United with "Fall":

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "divine". We'll be looking at 2 Peter 1:3-4: 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. KJV This is the Greek word "theios". Strong's Concordance says: godlike. Vine's Expository Dictionary adds this: that which proceeds from God Himself. The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament says: relative to all that bears the stamp of deity, as predominant power, final reality, supreme meaning. We HAVE the Spirit of God living in our recreated human spirits. In order for His nature to be apparent in us, we must prosper our souls (3 John 2) by renewing our minds with His Word (Romans 12:2). It is through the knowledge of Him, which is obtained progressively, layer upon layer, that we gain the understanding of just who WE are in Him! Our confidence in speaking the Word, standing on the Word and doing the Word, with the same results that Jesus had, will continue to grow as we continue to pursue this knowledge of Him. As you do this, remember that all of those good things about Him are IN you, too, because YOU have HIS nature! It shows! Here is Hillsong with "The Difference", because He IS the difference in us!

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "parents". Of course, you KNOW what this word means! It is found only in the New Testament. The verses we'll be looking at are Ephesians 6:1 and Colossians 3:20: Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. KJV Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. KJV This is the Greek word "goneus". Strong's Concordance says: From the base of {ginomai: to cause to be, to come into being}; a parent. Louw and Nida Greek-English Lexicon of the N.T. adds: {always in the plural} biological or legal parents. Your girls are encouraged to obey you and Kristine because this is right and pleasing to the Lord. Ephesians 6:2-3 goes on to tell them this: 2 Honor (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother — this is the first commandment with a promise — [Ex 20:12.] 3 That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth. AMP They are promised that things will go well with them when they honor you with respect and obedience! Training them to do this is the very best thing that you both can do for them! You also have a promise, which is found in Proverbs 22:6: 6 Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it. AMP I am standing on that one for my own grown up "children"! You and Kristine are some of the very best, most loving, most patient, most encouraging parents that I have ever known. Your daughters' eyes shine with the love and the confidence and the boldness that only great parents can instill in them. They will all do well at whatever God leads them to do! Here is a Hillsong Kids song called "Trust and Obey":

Hi Brian! The Word for this week is "generous". It appears in a few verses from different Hebrew and Greek words, but we will be looking at only this verse today: Proverbs 11:17 The merciful, kind, and generous man benefits himself [for his deeds return to bless him], but he who is cruel and callous [to the wants of others] brings on himself retribution. AMP
This phrase,"merciful, kind and generous" is the Hebrew word "checed". Strong's concordance says: kindness. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon adds: goodness, faithfulness. Vine's Expository Dictionary is my favorite! It says: loving-kindness; steadfast love; grace; mercy; devotion. This is the word that comes to mind when I see you with your family. The picture of you putting polish on Avery's toes was so precious! The word I had in mind was "selfless", but that wasn't in the Word at all. Generous is a synonym for it and this verse has such a promise to it! This "chesed" is the wonderful love and care that the Father has for us, and it is what I see operating in you towards your family. The promise is that even though your thoughts were on others, God's thoughts are on you! Your "deeds will turn to bless" you! I am believing for wonderful things for you and your family! Hi Brian! The word for this week is "whole". There are a few different Greek words translated whole in the New Testament, but we'll only be looking at two of them. The first is found in these verses: Matt 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour KJV Acts 9:34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. KJV
This is the Greek word "iaomai". Strong's Concordance says: to cure. The second is found in these verses: Matt 12:13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other. KJV Matt 15:31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel. KJV Mark 5:33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. 34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. KJV John 5:8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. 9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. KJV This is the Greek word "hugies". Strong's Concordance says this: healthy; well in body. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: sound. Just from these two words we can see beyond any doubt that it is the will of God that we be cured of any and every ailment or infirmity that we will ever face. Not just healed, either, but made whole, restored to health and fully sound in every area of our bodies. It's very important to know these things from the Word of God so that when we pray, we can pray with confidence and accuracy! 1 John 5:14-15 gives us this promise and instruction: 14 And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us. 15 And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him. AMP As the head of your household and the priest of your home, this should give you great confidence when it comes to praying, and standing, for yourself, Kristine and your girls whenever sickness and disease try to attack. HE wants you whole even more than YOU want it. WE are always in agreement with you for your healthy household! Here is Hillsong Worship with "Forever Reign":

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "signs". We'll be looking at three different portions of Scripture: Exodus 10:2; Luke 21:25-27; and Mark 16:17-18. Exodus 10:2 And that you may tell in the ears of your son, and of your son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know how that I am the Lord. This is the Hebrew word "owth". Strong's Concordance says: a signal, as a flag, beacon, monument, omen, evidence. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon adds: a remembrance, a miraculous sign, a warning. In the case of these signs to Egypt, which are also referred to as plagues, these were a strong warning to Pharaoh and all of Egypt that the God of the Hebrews truly was GOD and should be obeyed and honored. Though Pharaoh refused to acknowledge Him, many Egyptian people did! Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. This is the Greek word "semeion". Strong's Concordance says: an indication, especially ceremonially or supernaturally. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds this: a mark, token. That by which a person or a thing is distinguished from others. There have been many "signs" in the heavens lately that, taken all together, point to the God of the Bible about to do something extraordinary! Things like the blood moons and the occurrence of the planets aligned as at the time of the Bethlehem Star (Have you watched that documentary yet? Fascinating!). Then we have THIS instruction and promise to born again , Spirit-filled believers! Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 .They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
This is the same Greek word "semeion". Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds this: miracles and wonders by which God authenticates those sent by him. God loves to prove Himself to those who believe in Him and trust in Him! These signs are to get the attention of the lost so that they can turn to Him and receive their salvation! These are specific things that are undeniably God, but He also shows Himself strong in our lives by the evidence of His favor and blessing. Your lives, family, careers, are on display for all of those around you to see, and when they see, they see the evidence of HIM! I am praying for continued favor, anointing, blessing, protection, provision and safety for you, Kristine and your beautiful girls, and for all of those who are affected by your lives and the "signs" they see! Hi Brian! I hope your birthday party for Georgia and Reagan was a success! The word for this week is "stayed". The particular Hebrew word we'll be looking at for stayed is found in Isaiah 26:3: You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: because he trusts in You. This is the Hebrew word "camak". Strong's Concordance says: to prop; to lean upon or take hold of. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon adds this: to rest; to support; to uphold; to lean against; to brace oneself; to sustain; to refresh; to revive. This same Hebrew word is the root for the word "uphold" found in Psalms 37:17; 37:24 and 119:116. THESE refer to the Lord's part in supporting us. Isaiah is speaking of our responsibility to lean on, trust in and rely on Him and on His promises. The Amplified Bible says this of Isaiah 26:3: 3 You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. AMP I know that you and Kristine have faced some situations where you were forced to keep your minds stayed on Him, and you received the promised peace that many people marvel at! I want to use this to encourage you to remember those times and the results of your faith so that the enemy will not ever be able to trip you up and get an advantage over you. I am confident that your lives, your joy, your family, your peace, and the favor of God upon you is attracting the attention of hurting people who will come to you for counsel. And YOU are well able to help! Here is Hillsong United with "The Stand":

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "walk", in honor of Reagan's first steps! :) There are a few different Greek words translated walk in the New Testament. This week we'll be looking at one of them found in these verses: Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. KJV Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. KJV Phil 3:16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. KJV This is the Greek word "stoicheo". Strong's Concordance says: to march in military rank (keep step), i.e. to conform to virtue and piety. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds this: to go in order. The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament says this: to be in agreement. Vine's Expository Dictionary adds: used of walking by the Spirit, in an exhortation to keep step with one another in submission of the heart to the Holy Spirit (resulting in unity and harmony in the church). REAL unity in a church, or a family or work team, comes when everyone knows what is expected and are committed to seeing it through. I know that you've seen the benefit of this in your career when your team has had success, and you've probably seen the negative effects when some choose to go their own way. A household can be in chaos when there is no "walking" order! If there are no rules set in place, then there is no standard and everyone will do what is right in their own eyes, as in Judges 17:6 and 21:25. I love that you and Kristine have established an order in your home that is unique to your own family, and that you are in agreement in doing so. The peace and joy that are evident when we visit is a result of that. When everyone knows the order, then you can all "walk" together in harmony! Here is a song from Hillsong's "God Is Able" album called "Narrow Road":

Hi Brian! We are praying for a great week for Kristine and for you and the girls! The word for this week is "resist". We'll be looking at these two verses: James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. KJV 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. KJV This is the Greek word "anthistemi". Vine's Expository Dictionary shows that this is a compound word with "anti" meaning against, and "histemi" meaning to cause to stand. Strong's Concordance adds: to oppose. Thayer's Greek Lexicon says: to set against. The Word of God reveals to us that we have supernatural weapons that work against the enemy (2 Corinthians 10:4). In order for these weapons to work effectively, we must first of all recognize the works of the enemy, and then set ourselves against him, refusing to accept any report that is contrary to what the word of God says belong to us. Putting the Word as our final authority buts us in submission to God so that when we resist the enemy, the promise is that he WILL flee from us! I love this expanded translation from Rick Renner's "Sparkling Gems": "Stand firmly against the devil! That's right - be unbending and unyielding in the way you resist him so that he knows he is up against a serious contender. If you'll take this kind of stand against him, he will tuck his tail and run like a criminal who knows the day of prosecution is upon him. Once you start resisting him, he'll flee from you in terror!" Now THAT is a powerful promise! Here is a very old song by the Christians rock group, Petra, called "Now Weapon Formed Against Me". The quality isn't great, but the message is good!

Hi Brian! I hope you and Kristine are having a wonderful trip! The word for this week is "race". We'll be looking at two different Greek words from two different verses. The first is 1 Corinthians 9:24: 24 Know you not that they which run in a race run all, but one receives the prize? So run, that you may obtain. KJV
This is the Greek word "stadion". Strong's Concordance says: a stade or certain measure of distance; a race-course. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds this: the one who outstripped the rest, and reached the goal first, receiving the prize. The next verse is Hebrews 12:1: 12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, KJV This one is the Greek word "agon". Strong's Concordance says: a place of assembly, a contest, an effort or anxiety. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: a contest, of athletes, runners, charioteers; any struggle with dangers, annoyances, obstacles, standing in the way of faith. Both verses, with the different words, are comparing our "race" of life with an athletic competition because we do have an enemy who is trying at every turn to defeat us or cause us to quit. It takes the same dedication and determination that a winning athlete has to have in order to be successful and to finish our "race". We have the advantage of the Spirit of God as our Helper, the Wisdom of God through the Word, and the gifts and talents He has given us, but without discipline and determination, we will never fully walk in them. It is exciting for me to see the success that you and Kristine have had in your careers. You already operate with determination and discipline, so when you add the supernatural anointing that comes from God, there is no limit to the success that you can have in every area of life! Here is Hillsong with "Running", because that IS what we do in a "race"! :)

Hi Brian! Happy Father's Day to one of the very best fathers I know! The word for this week is "image". We'll be looking at this word in these two portions of Scripture: Rom 8:2 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. KJV 2 Cor 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. KJV This is the Greek word "eikon". Strong's Concordance says: a likeness, i.e. statue, profile, representation, resemblance. The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament adds this: our being conformed to Christ is given its distinctive emphasis by the fact that this means participation in his divine likeness. This likeness is the goal. Seeing the Lord's glory means sharing it and thus being changed into his likeness. The concern of the Christian life is already the putting on of the new being that is renewed after the image of its Creator. When we spend time in His presence through prayer, praise and worship, study of the Word and intimate fellowship with Him, WE are changed from the inside out to reflect HIS attributes! We will begin to think like Him, speak like Him and act like Him! THEN we WILL have His results! The area of your life that most shows up Jesus to me is your quiet strength! I have never heard you raise your voice, yet you are definitely in control of the situations that affect your home and your family! I KNOW that others see that in you, also! YOU, look like JESUS! His very image! Here is another new song from Hillsong United called "Empires" that speaks to this subject a little bit!

Hi Brian! The word for this week is "study". It's found in two places in the New Testament: 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. KJV 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. KJV
In 2 Timothy, the Greek word is "spoudazo". Strong's Concordance says: to use speed; to make effort; to be prompt or earnest. Thayer's Greek Lexicons adds: to exert oneself. Vine's Expository Dictionary also adds: to be zealous. It takes quite a commitment to put that kind of "study" in so that we can know the Word of God properly! Here is this same verse from the Amplified Bible and the Wuest Translation: 15 Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth. AMP 15-18 Bend your every effort to present yourself to God, approved, a workman unashamed, expounding soundly the word of the truth. The New Testament: An Expanded Translation by Kenneth S. Wuest In 1 Thessalonians, the Greek word is "philotimeomai". Strong's Concordance says: to be fond of honor; emulous (eager or earnest to do something). Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: from a love of honor to strive to bring something to pass. Vine's Expository Dictionary says: to be ambitious; make it one's aim. This word seems to pertain to the reason and purpose for studying the Word AND for anything else that we do. There's a quote on our SWC website that appears in the "Nuggets of Wisdom" section that says this: 'He who has a "why" to live can bear almost any "how".' Here is this verse from the Amplified Bible and from the Wuest Translation: 11 To make it your ambition and definitely endeavor to live quietly and peacefully, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we charged you, 12 So that you may bear yourselves becomingly and be correct and honorable and command the respect of the outside world, being dependent on nobody [self-supporting] and having need of nothing. AMP . Now, as for you, I beg of you, please, brethren, that you see to it that you continually are increasing more and more [in this love], that you make it your ambition to be living a quiet life, that you are cultivating the habit of attending to your own private affairs, and that you are working with your hands, even as I gave you a charge, in order that you may be conducting yourselves in a manner becoming to you [as children of God] toward those who are on the outside, in order that you may not be having need of anything. The New Testament: An Expanded Translation by Kenneth S. Wuest It has been very exciting to see you reap the rewards of your diligence, focus and goal setting, in your career, in the Word of God, and in raising your family! Now, just for fun, I want to share the Message Bible version of these verses! This does NOT pertain to you at all, but they made me laugh! 11 Stay calm; mind your own business; do your own job. You've heard all this from us before, but a reminder never hurts. 12 We want you living in a way that will command the respect of outsiders, not lying around sponging off your friends. Hi Brian! The word for this week is "keep". There are SO many different words used for keep, both in the Old and the New Testaments. We'll look at just two of them today. The first is found inIsaiah 26:3: 3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusts in thee. KJV
This one is the Hebrew word "natsar". Strong's Concordance says this: to guard, in a good sense (to protect, maintain). Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon adds: to watch; preserve, to guard from dangers. The promise here is that HE will guard, protect and preserve us in HIS "perfect peace" (Shalom that we covered in the first month of this blog) IF our minds are stayed (we'll cover that word in a future blog post!) on Him. Look at the Amplified Bible version of this verse: 3 You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. AMP It is our responsibility to keep our minds free from the negative influences of the enemy by spending time in His Word, getting it inside of us. THEN He will will cause that SHALOM (safety, happiness, prosperity, health, welfare, soundness, completeness, tranquility and contentment) operating and flowing in and through our lives! THAT will cause people to take notice of our God-blessed lives! The next verse we'll look at is Proverbs 7:1-2: 1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. 2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. KJV
This "keep" here is the Hebrew word "shamar". Strong's Concordance says this: to hedge about (as with thorns); to protect; to guard; to attend to. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon adds this: to observe; to treasure; to celebrate; to preserve. The Amplified Bible says THIS: 1 MY SON, keep my words; lay up within you my commandments [for use when needed] and treasure them. 2 Keep my commandments and live, and keep my law and teaching as the apple (the pupil) of your eye. AMP When we treat the Word of God as the precious treasure that it is (TRUTH- John 17:17) by studying it, meditating on it, speaking it out and daring to stand on it, then HE will confirm that Word in our lives, sometimes with signs and wonders and miracles! HIS will will "RULE"! That's the name of the song I'm sharing with you today! From Hillsong United's new album "Empires":
