The word for this week is "signs". We'll be looking at three different portions of Scripture: Exodus 10:2; Luke 21:25-27; and Mark 16:17-18.
Exodus 10:2 And that you may tell in the ears of your son, and of your son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know how that I am the Lord.
This is the Hebrew word "owth". Strong's Concordance says: a signal, as a flag, beacon, monument, omen, evidence. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon adds: a remembrance, a miraculous sign, a warning. In the case of these signs to Egypt, which are also referred to as plagues, these were a strong warning to Pharaoh and all of Egypt that the God of the Hebrews truly was GOD and should be obeyed and honored. Though Pharaoh refused to acknowledge Him, many Egyptian people did!
Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
This is the Greek word "semeion". Strong's Concordance says: an indication, especially ceremonially or supernaturally. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds this: a mark, token. That by which a person or a thing is distinguished from others. There have been many "signs" in the heavens lately that, taken all together, point to the God of the Bible about to do something extraordinary! Things like the blood moons and the occurrence of the planets aligned as at the time of the Bethlehem Star (Have you watched that documentary yet? Fascinating!). Then we have THIS instruction and promise to born again , Spirit-filled believers!
Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 .They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Love and Shalom from the Swoveys!
