The word for this week is "good". I would have thought that we would have covered this one already! There are a few different words translated "good" in the Bible. We will cover just one of those today and maybe look at others another time! We'll be looking at these verses:
Mark 10:17-18 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. KJV
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. KJV
Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. KJV
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. KJV
2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: KJV
Ephesians 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. KJV
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: KJV
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. KJV
Every one of these is the Greek word "agathos". Strong's Concordance says: good in any sense. Thayer's Greek Lexicon says: It denotes excelling in any respect, distinguished. Vine's Expository Dictionary says: that which, being good in its character or constitution, is beneficial in its effect. Morally honorable, pleasing to God. God is essentially, absolutely and consummately "good". I probably could have shortened this list of Scriptures a bit, but every one of these verses is special and powerful! I especially love that JESUS said to Martha that Mary choosing to sit at His feet to hear Him speak was choosing the GOOD part! I love that HE is working everything out in my life together for GOOD! I also LOVE that there is a "good" work going on inside of me that God HImself, in the person of Holy Spirit, is carrying out on my behalf! All of these Scriptures point us to the author of LIFE, JESUS! And HE gives us GOOD gifts! Here is Hillsong with an older song called "God Is Great":
Love and Shalom from the Swoveys!
