Hi Brian!

The word for this week is "bright". There are three Greek words translated "bright" in the New Testament. The first is found in Matthew 17:5. This is the account of the transfiguration and the verse comes after Peter offered to make tabernacles for Jesus, Moses and Elijah.

5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. KJV

This is the Greek word "photeinos". Strong's Concordance says: lustrous, i.e. transparent or well-illuminated. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: light; composed of light; of a bright character. Vine's Expository Dictionary adds: full of light. THIS was the presence of God! The next "bright" is found in Luke 11:36:

36 If your whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle does give you light. KJV

This "bright" is the Greek word "astrape". In all references it means, basically, lightning! It is THAT bright! "Full of light" in this verse is "photeinos" from above! We CAN be filled with the same brightness, by the Spirit of God IN us, as was present in the cloud that day on the mount! The last one is found in Revelation 22:16:

16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. KJV

This one is the Greek word "lampros". Strong's Concordance says:radiant; limpid [dictionary definition:(of a liquid) free of anything that darkens; completely clear, transparent, glassy, crystal clear, cystalline, transluscent, unclouded]; magnificent, sumptuous. Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: brilliant; splendid. THIS is referring to the brightness of the glorified Jesus Who has been given the Name that is above every name! I LOVE how that brightness will affect us when we finally see Him face to face! 1 John 3:2:

2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. KJV

What a day THAT will be! Until then, we DO have the brightness of His presence IN us to lead, guide and direct us moment by moment and day by day! Here is a new song from Hillsong Young and Free called "Brighter":

You shine brighter
Than any star in the sky
Your light shining
Through the dark of the night
Jesus forever
I find all that I am
In Your love, love, love

You are with me
In every step that I take
Your love for me
You have called me by name
Jesus forever
I find all that I am
In Your love, love, love

Let the music play
Hear us praise Your name
See the darkness fade
Dance the night away
We have found our place
In the Savior's grace
Dance the night away
Your light is taking over me

I find freedom
In the light of Your love
Everlasting
You are more than enough
Jesus forever
I find all that I am
In Your love, love, love

Let the music play
Hear us praise Your name
See the darkness fade
Dance the night away
We have found our place
In the Savior's grace
Dance the night away

Your light is taking o-o-over me
Your light is taking o-o-over me
I'm dancing 'cause
Your love has set me free
Your light is taking o-o-over me

All of my heart and soul
To You alone
You are the one I want now
Forever
All of my heart is Yours
Forevermore
You are the one I want now
Forever
All of my heart and soul
To You alone
You are the one I want now
Forever
All of my heart is Yours
Forevermore
You are the one I want

Let the music play
Hear us praise Your name
See the darkness fade
Dance the night away
We have found our place
In the Savior's grace
Dance the night away

Your light is taking o-o-over me
Your light is taking o-o-over me
I'm dancing 'cause
Your love has set me free
Your light is taking o-o-over me
