Hi Brian!

The word for this week is "anchor". The only place it is found in the Word of God is in Hebrews 6:19:

19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters into that within the veil; KJV

This is the Greek word "ankyra". The Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament says: a ship's anchor; for that which gives support and stability. The whole passage of verses 16-20 explains just what that "anchor" or "support and stability" is for us:

16 Men indeed swear by a greater [than themselves], and with them in all disputes the oath taken for confirmation is final [ending strife]. 17 Accordingly God also, in His desire to show more convincingly and beyond doubt to those who were to inherit the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose and plan, intervened (mediated) with an oath. 18 This was so that, by two unchangeable things [His promise and His oath] in which it is impossible for God ever to prove false or deceive us, we who have fled [to Him] for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed for us and set before [us]. 19 [Now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it — a hope] that reaches farther and enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil,  [Lev 16:2.] 20 Where Jesus has entered in for us [in advance], a Forerunner having become a High Priest forever after the order (with the rank) of Melchizedek. AMP

I also like the Message Bible for this:

16 When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they'll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. 17 When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee —   18 God can't break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. 19 It's an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God 20 where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek. His WORD is our anchor. We know from Numbers 23:19 that God cannot lie, and from John 17:17 that His Word IS Truth. We can count on it! When we do, then our lives, anchored in Him and the Truth of His Word, will be an example of Heaven on earth! You and your family are a blessing to everyone who knows you, and will be to those you have yet to meet! Here is a new song from Hillsong Live's "Glorious Ruins" album called "Anchor":
