Hi Brian!

The word for this week is "reverse". Numbers 23:17 says:

17 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he has blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

This is the Hebrew word "shuwb". Strong's Concordance says: to turn back (hence, away); generally to retreat. The situation was that Balak had asked Balaam to curse Israel. He tried, but he couldn't do it because God had already pronounced His blessing on the nation! As long as they followed Him, they walked in protection, provision and safety! I really like verse 19, especially in the Amplified Bible:

19 God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good?

What God has promised in His Word He will NOT take back or change! The only thing that can keep the promises of God from being fulfilled in our lives is if WE turn away from Him! Even then, His mercy is so great that He gives us many, many opportunities to return to Him! A New Covenant promise of this is found in Romans 11:29:

29 For God's gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.]

I also like this one from 2 Corinthians 1:20:

20 For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes [answer] in Him [Christ]. For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His person and by His agency] to the glory of God.

Because you keep your word to Avery, she will be better able to trust her Heavenly Father to keep His! You are a great father and it shows in the eyes of your beautiful daughter! Here is Hillsong with "For Who Your Are"!

Hi Brian!

The word for this week is "contention". There are a few different words translated "contention" in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. The verses we're looking at today are 1 Thessalonians 2:1-2:

1 For ourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it is not in vain. 2 But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as you know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the Gospel of God with much contention.

The Greek word translated "contention" here is "agon". Strong's Concordance says: a place of assembly (as if led), i.e. (by implication) a contest (held there), an effort or anxiety. (translated in the KJV as conflict, contention, fight, race). Vine's Expository Dictionary says (concerning 1 Thessalonians 2:2) implying a contest against spiritual foes, as well as human adversaries. The Amplified Bible says:

1 FOR YOU yourselves know, brethren, that our coming among you was not useless and fruitless. 2 But though we had already suffered and been outrageously treated at Philippi, as you know, yet in [the strength of] our God we summoned courage to proclaim to you unfalteringly the good news (the Gospel) with earnest contention and much conflict and great opposition.

Whenever we share the Gospel there will be some who are so open and ready to receive that it will take no effort at all! But there WILL be those who are just not ready yet! Even Paul ran into those! In my experience it has been close friends and family members who seemed the least open to the Word of God, while complete strangers were so excited to hear the Truth! The key word here is "seemed"! The Word of God will NOT return to Him void and unproductive (Isaiah 55:11)! He is working on their hearts with the Word that has been shared. Your life is a "living epistle" (2 Corinthians 3:2) that shows forth God's glory, love, provision, protection to those who  know you! So as you continue to be who you are, and who you are becoming, share the Word where and when you can with great confidence that you WILL see the results you so desire! Hi Brian!

The word for this week is "joy".  There are many words translated joy. One of those we covered in the word "rejoice". We'll be looking at two today. The first is found in the Old Testament in Psalm 32:11:

11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all you that are upright in heart.

And in Psalm 35:27:

27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor My righteous cause: yes, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.

In both of these the Hebrew word for the entire phrase "shout for joy" is "ranan". According to Strong's Concordance this means: to emit a stridulous sound, to shout. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon says: to be overcome, to give a ringing cry, to shout for joy. Vine's Expository Dictionary says: Ranan is often used to express joy, exultation, which seems to demand loud singing, especially when it is praise to God.

The next "joy" is found in the New Testament in 1 Peter 4:13:

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; when His glory shall be revealed, you may be glad with exceeding joy.

The is the Greek word "agalliai", which, according to Strong's Concordance, means: to jump for joy, exult. Both of these words translated "joy" reveal intense feeling that is expressed outwardly! I'm sure some people will be surprised at just how exciting, active and noisy Heaven is! WE get to practice that here! Being a musician must add another whole dimension to that! How blessed you are! How blessed those of us who get to hear you are, too! I hope you enjoy THIS song from Hillsong United! It is called "Yours Forever":

Hi Brian!

The word for this week is "intents". It is only found once in the New Testament, in Hebrews 4:12:

12 For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

This is the Greek word "ennoia", which means: thoughtfulness, moral understanding, according to Strong's Concordance. Thayer's Greek Lexicon says: the act of thinking, consideration, meditation; a thought, notion, conception; mind, understanding, will, manner of thinking and feeling. Vine's Expository Dictionary says: primarily a thinking, idea, consideration; denotes purpose, intention, design. The Amplified Bible gives a clearer picture of this:

12 For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of the joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Spending time in the Word of God every day will put us in position to have the Holy Spirit teach us not only what the Word of God is saying, but also what adjustments are needed in OUR thinking in  order to line up more clearly with His Word! When we think like God, then we'll speak like God and then act like Him! And THAT is what HE is looking for! You look more and more like Jesus to the people around you every day! We LIKE what we see!
